FREDERICKTOWN — Kevin Lee Carte, 47, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 in his home following a tragic house fire.
He was born Feb. 4, 1967 to Dennis L. and Lois (Bachelder) Carte.
Kevin was a carpenter by trade but had also worked in the assembly, cooking, and automotive fields. He was employed at H&S Automotive, and enjoyed tinkering on cars. He also did some factory work in the Shelby area, and cooked at the truck stop at I-71 and State Route 95. More recently, Kevin worked at Oscar’s Restaurant in Fredericktown until he had to stay at home due to disability.
Kevin loved horses and competed in many rodeo contests including barrel racing. He was particularly attached to his horse Princess Snowflake he affectionately called “Fancy.” He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs Kooskoos, Patters, and Lucy.
Blessed with a strong will, Kevin could be stubborn, especially when his mother wanted him to cut his hair! He spent time with his father hunting, and won the Ohio Big Buck Award for his 22 point buck. He never missed an episode of Law & Order or COPS and enjoyed most any crime show. He was kindhearted, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends alike.
Surviving are his two daughters and son-in-law, Alaina Carte of Mount Gilead, and Heather and Ron Mader of Mount Gilead; their mother, Juanita Burch of Mount Gilead; five granddaughters, Torrie, Alexis, Autumn, Allyson, and Breeze; his father, Dennis Carte of Fredericktown; siblings, Rena Moody, Jody Carte, Dewayne Carte, and Shelley Carte-Barnhill; nieces and nephews, Lee, Gregory, Danielle, Casey, Chelsea, Chase, Breanna, Mikayla, and Dylon; step nephews, Dallas and Austin; great nieces and great nephews, Payson, Gregory, Audrey and another baby girl due in November.
Kevin was greeted in heaven by his mother, Lois Carte; his grandparents; and his brother-in-law, Rick Thomas.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 4 p.m. in Shauck Cemetery. Pastor Rob Ratcliff will officiate. Dennis Carte will host a gathering at his home in honor of Kevin following the service. All are warmly invited to attend and a covered dish or refreshment would be greatly appreciated.
