LEXINGTON– Mechanics Bank has renewed its title sponsorship of the Mechanics Bank Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, June 27-29, to be held over the three-day period at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
The premium annual event of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) features as many as 400 cars on-track and several hundred more off-track in a pair of car shows that provide a dazzling spectacle for sports car purists and enthusiasts alike.
“We really enjoy our partnership with Mechanics Bank,” said Craig Rust, President of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “Their history and business roots in our community are a perfect fit for this event.”
“As Richland County’s only independent community bank, we are pleased to partner with our hometown race track,” said Deborah Schenk, President and CEO for Mechanics Bank. “To have the presence of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in our area is a unique opportunity. This event fosters economic growth for our community when race fans visit Richland County and we want to support the opportunities right here in our backyard. Renewing this sponsorship for a third year is one way we can support our community.”
The 2014 edition of the event is the 32nd straight appearance at Mid-Ohio, uniting historic cars and a historic racetrack, a marriage made in motorsports heaven. One manufacturer with an even longer history than the SVRA at Mid-Ohio is the iconic Mini, which celebrates its 55th anniversary this year and has been selected as the 2014 Featured Marque. To date, some 90 drivers from the US., Canada, Great Britain and Mexico have registered for the Can-Am Mini event.
Other series that will race at Mid-Ohio over the SVRA weekend include two Hawk Performance Endurance Series races; the 60 minute Vintage/Classic Enduro and the 90 minute Historic GT/GTP/ALMS Enduro. SVRA events also feature multiple Sprint races over the course of a weekend and enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a wide variety of machinery, from small-bore production cars like MGs and Alfas to open wheel Formula-1, NASCAR production brutes, muscular Mustangs and sleek Corvettes, to name a few.
