Charles R. Deal, Jr., 89, of Mansfield, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Mifflin Care Center. Born August 3, 1924 in Dunbar, VA, he was the son of Charles R. and Mae (Lowe) Deal, Sr. Charles was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving in World War II with Squadron D of the 138th and was a member of Amvets Post #31 and American Legion Post #16. He worked in the transportation department for Empire Steel Detroit where he retired after 32 years. In his free time, Charles enjoyed gardening and taking care of his yard, cooking, and watching golf.
He is survived by his son, Christopher (Sherri) Jones of Mansfield; daughter-in-law, Sally Deal of Mansfield; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchilren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 1996, Marie (Jones) Deal whom he married in 1968; sons, Charles R. Deal and Michael Deal; daughter, Connie; brothers, James Deal and Randall Deal; and sisters, Margaret Deal, Shirley Jenkins, and Dafine Boggs.
Friends may call Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Veterans Association.
