SHELBY – The Shelby Area Democratic Club will host its 7th annual Truman-Kennedy Society Breakfast Saturday, May 31 at 9 a.m. in the social rooms at First United Church of Christ, 23 Church St., Shelby.
The keynote speaker will be the Honorable John P. O’Donnell, a judge on the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. He was elected to the bench 2002 and re-elected in 2006 and 2012. The Cuyahoga County court is one of Ohio’s busiest, and during that time Judge O’Donnell has presided over scores of jury trials in felony criminal cases and civil lawsuits. Judge O’Donnell is a candidate this fall for a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court.
“It’s an honor to host a public servant of Judge O’Donnell’s caliber,” said club president Garland John Gates. “It’s also an honor to have a statewide candidate visit Shelby.”
During the breakfast gathering, the society will present two awards. The first is the “Give ‘Em Hell” Award, which reminds of the dogged truthfulness of President Harry S. Truman. The Profiles in Courage Award, reminiscent of President John Kennedy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, goes to someone who holds to his or her convictions despite the ramifications.
Reservations are needed for the breakfast. Detailed information is available online at www.ShelbyAreaDems.blogspot.com or by calling419-347-3337. All Democrats and persons of good will are invited to attend.
