North Central State College has honored two students as the 2014 Student of the Year and runner-up.
Dulcey Wagner was named 2014 Student of the Year. Wagner graduated May 9 from NC State’s RN program. She would like to continue her education to obtain a MSN or PhD and is interested in working in the fields of research, surgical nursing or ER nursing. She is the recipient of the Simmons-Olson, Mark Hightower Nursing Scholarship, the North Central State College Foundation Scholarship, the American Association of University Women North Central State College Scholarship, and the Gorman Fund Scholarship.
Wagner works as work-study in the Student Success Center, takes care of her younger brother who has Autism, and is a mentor to her fellow classmates. She is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa and participates in activities when time allows including Rock & Ribs.
Ryan C. Van Riper has been chosen as the 2014 NCSC Student of the Year runner-up.
Piper received his associate degree on May 9, majoring in business management. He would like to continue his education to obtain a bachelor’s degree in management and leadership. He is the recipient of the Tech-Prep Presidential Scholarship.
Piper is a member of Phi Theta Kappa where he is currently serving as secretary. He helps NCSC during the College Fair and also at Welcome Week, helping students at the Kehoe Center. He has attended the Involvement and Community Fair, networking to get new members into both SGA and PTK. He attended a Lead Lecture Series event with Col. McCue, and did research for the Shawnee Indian PTK Hallmark.
Both students were nominated to the All-Ohio and All-USA Academic Teams and were honored at a banquet at the Ohio State House in Columbus on April 30.
