Like a lighthouse, Richard Shenberger offered a constant ray of guidance and help. Like a lighthouse he had the personality, and ability to lighten the atmosphere during stressful times. Aware that his spiritual light came from Christ, he has left us with Christ’s promise, that even death cannot steal his light.
Richard S. Shenberger, 58, of Mansfield passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in Hospice of North Central Ohio’s Hospice House following an extended illness.
The son of Richard E. and Esther M. (Geiger) Shenberger, Richard was born March 18, 1956 in Mansfield. He later graduated from Lexington High School in 1974.
For 11 years he worked for Coca Cola and for the past 24 years he was employed at Atlas Bolt and Scew, in Ashland. Working in numerous departments, Richard primarily worked in management, as manufacturing supervisor.
Richard loved traveling and after a vacation to Traverse City, Michigan he discovered a new hobby…lighthouses. Having a large collection of lighthouses, Richard visited as many lighthouses as possible. He also inherited the love of Coca Cola memorabilia from his father, and enjoyed expanding his Coca Cola collection.
Meticulous, Richard was a go-to, Mr. fix-it, kind of guy. Plumbing, electrical, and refinishing work, Richard could fix anything. He also tinkered on cars. Quite the green thumb, Richard’s vegetable gardens were bountiful and vibrant. His prized produce were his tomato plants. Each year they would grow over 6 feet.
He was a member of Mansfield Masonic Lodge #35. Richard attended Impact Worship Center where he was baptized in August of 2013.
He is survived by his two favorite girls, Norma and Oreo; siblings John Shenberger of Winston-Salem, N.C., Linda (Tom) Doklovic of Lexington, Joyce (Jim) Sand of Lexington, and Erik Shenberger of Mansfield; special “brother” Vic Shenberger of Mansfield; along with aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Esther Shenberger.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 1-4pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 4 pm. Pastor Christine Radojcsics will officiate.
Memorial contributions to the Richland County Humane Society or Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made through the funeral home.
