For the second consecutive year Auditor of State Dave Yost has reported no findings in his office’s annual audit of Mansfield City Schools.

“We are very pleased with Auditor Yost’s report,” Treasurer Rosetta Stephens said Monday. “Much of the credit goes to the hard work of our treasurer’s office staff.”

The treasurer’s office manages a wide range of responsibilities, including payroll, insurance, retirements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants, bank reconciliations and budgeting.

Stephens said the district was subject to 16 individual audits last year by the Ohio Department of Education, auditors from Yost’s office, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Internal Revenue Service. Audit subjects included monthly fiscal reports, state and federal grants, attendance, special education and Medicaid.

Earlier, Yost presented the Auditor of State Award to the treasurer’s office for its clean audits of the district’s three conversion schools: Mansfield Elective Academy, Mansfield Enhancement Academy (STAR) and Interactive Media and Construction, Inc. (IMAC).

“Clean and accurate record-keeping is the foundation for good government and the taxpayers can take pride in your commitment to accountability,” Yost said in a letter announcing the award.

“The Auditor of State Award is given to those entities that file timely financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, as well as receive a ‘clean’ audit report. The ‘clean’ audit report means that your financial audit did not contain findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or any questioned costs.”

The MCS Board of Education voted earlier this year to sever its ties with the three conversion schools effective June 15.
