Nearly 80 students will be competing in the annual Richland County Spelling Bee on Friday, Feb. 28, at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (ESC). Mid-Ohio ESC co-sponsors the event with the Mansfield News Journal.

Students in the fourth through the eighth grade are eligible, according to guidelines sent to the schools.

Schools participating include Crestview, Discovery School, Foundations Academy, Lexington, Lucas, Madison, Mansfield, Plymouth-Shiloh, Sacred Heart, Shelby, St. Peter and Temple Christian.

Due to the large number of participants, students will be divided into two groups for the first several rounds, which begins at 9:30 a.m.

The final round will begin around 10:15 a.m. Bill Sharp, Director of the Mansfield Richland Area Educational Foundation, Inc. will be pronouncing the words.

The public is welcome to attend the spelling bee. Mid-Ohio ESC is located at 890 West Fourth Street, Mansfield.
