The Richland County Board of Elections’ August newsletter noted that even though 2013 is considered an “off-year” election, there are an above average number of candidates running for office. The Board of Elections notes that there are 18 townships in Richland County, and each township has candidates. In some townships, like Washington Township, there are two candidates who are running unopposed. But in Troy Township for example, there is an unusually high number of candidates. Eight candidates have filed for trustee. And Perry and Springfield townships each have five candidates.
Boards of Education show similar candidate responses. Lexington Local School District has the highest number of candidates for board members with six candidates. Other schools like Crestline, Lucas, Mansfield and Shelby have five candidates. There are 16 different school districts and approximately 2 to five candidates for each.
In addition to the candidates for local offices there are 12 local Issues for which the necessary documentation was filed, and there are no state issues on the ballot. The issues and candidates can be found on the pdf files from the Richland County Board of Elections to the left of the story.
Richland Source will accept profiles for candidates but will not endorse individual candidates. We may, however, support local ballot issues.
Candidates can submit their profiles by logging in as a user of Richland Source and submitting their candidate photo and a profile of 350 words or less.
