The Trans Am Series will also take to the course at Mid-Ohio on Saturday with 38 entries, only two shy of the all-time high at the course. The 101.65 mile Trans Am race will start at 12 p.m. on Saturday.

The Trans American Sedan Championship series held its first race March 25, 1966, at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. Formula One World Champion Jochen Rindt took the overall victory and Bob Tullius won the Over 2-Liter class. Other first-year notables included A.J. Foyt, Richard Petty, Jerry Titus and Belgium’s Jacky Ickx.

Leading up to the race TA class Doug Peterson and TA2 class Cameron Lawrence lead the point standings in their classes. Peterson will be seen driving No. 87 3Dimensional.com Chevrolet Corvette for Tony Ave Racing. Peterson won the third place start over Simon Gregg, No. 1, for Gregg Motorsporst/Chevrolet Corvette by hundreds of a second. And Amy Ruman and No. 23 McNichols Company Chevrolet Corvette, based out of Kent, was not far behind garnering the fourth position.

Ruman calls Mid-Ohio her hometown course and is counting on the fans to boost her to a new finish. Gregg and Ruman will vie for topic positions against Peterson and #1 position’s car no. 4: Tomy Drissi, The Counselor/Chevrolet Corvette whose fast lap speed was 100.057 mph.

Last year, Gregg, claimed the Trans Am championship at the Mid-Ohio track.

There will be some first-timers and rookies in the event, as well, and only time, and speed, will tell.
