There is daily entertainment provided by Johnny Peers’ Muttville Comix and the Zerbini Family Circus. Peers’ Muttville Comix is a menagerie of mongrels. All of the performing pooches were acquired through shelters. The Charlie Chaplin-style performance has tickled audiences on David Letterman, Regis & Kathy Lee, Primetime Live, Travels with Harry, and Seinfeld before stopping off at the Richland County Fair.
The Zerbini family have been circus performers for more than a hundred years, but in 1992 a tragic accident almost ended the family tradition. Alain Zerbini fell 40 feet after a high wire snapped and he was informed that he would never perform again. Against the odds Zerbini founded his own family circus after months of rehabilitation and they travel the country with a new show each year.
If you’re inspired by the volunteerism of your neighbors there is still a way to take part. The fair is hosting a blood drive on four days:
Monday, 1-6 p.m.
Tuesday, 1-7 p.m.
Wednesday, 1-7 p..m.
Friday, 1-7 p.m.
As a special thank you for your donation you’ll receive 2 free admission tickets and 2 grandstand tickets of your choice.
Some fun actives and events around the fairgrounds include the Ageless Beauty Contest in the John Hartz Building on August 5 at 2 p.m. The Kiddie Tractor Pull on August 9, 1 p.m. in The Show Arena. The [Antique] Tractor Parade on August 9, 5:30 p.m. beginning at the Gazebo.
