Linda Fulmer was honored as this year’s grand marshal for the Ontario 4th of July parade.
Fulmer has been serving the Ontario community for over 40 years, first as the Recreation Coordinator for Ontario Schools, then as the OMS 6th grade language arts teacher for 25 years. She currently is a correspondent for the Tribune-Courier.
“I was really surprised when I found out I was selected,” stated Fulmer.
As the Recreation Coordinator, she helped evolve Ontario’s recreation program into a year-round program that offered new and exciting events, including the Christmas Bizarre. “We wanted to make the Bizarre a community event. We filled the Ontario High School classrooms with crafts, there was entertainment in the cafeteria, and lots of community churches were involved. I was glad to see it be successful,” she said.
During her employment as the Recreation Coordinator, she wrote a column dubbed, “Rec Review” for the Tribune-Courier, which highlighted all of the recreation program’s happenings.
After she retired from teaching in 2004, she made her position with the Tribune-Courier permanent. Some of Fulmer’s featured columns include “The Enjoyment Journey” and “The Stories We Tell.”
She expressed, “I love focusing on the good things going on in the community and writing for the Tribune has allowed me to do that.” Fulmer then mentioned, “I’ve appreciated Frank and Betty Stumbo tremendously for all the work they’ve done with the newspaper. I think it’s a real gift and legacy to the community.”
Fulmer also gave thanks to her husband Mike along with the rest of her family for all the support she has received from them over the years and attributed that support to her accomplishments.
Ontario 4th of July committee member, David Rehfeldt, commented, “Linda has performed several professional and civic activities, which have benefitted the community. With all of her work at Ontario Schools and at the Tribune, Linda has been a long-time promoter of Ontario.”
