Every year on the Fourth of July Americans celebrate their freedom. All across the nation fireworks and barbecues light up the lives of those fortunate enough to live in the United States. In Richland County, one of the biggest events takes place in Ontario. 2013 marks the 11th year of the Ontario Fourth of July Festival and this year’s lineup is set to be one of the best yet.
The Ontario Fourth of July Festival is a two day event this year taking place on July 3 and 4. It is designed for the whole family to enjoy and to build a sense of community while celebrating freedom. There will be a variety of events and entertainment, including a car show, sporting events, live music and, of course, fireworks. The events take place between the Ontario High School and Marshall Park located across the street from the school.
On July 3, the festivities begin with the Mike Martin Memorial Car Show at Marshall Park. The car show is benefiting the OGA Scholarship Program. It will take place from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. There are also a variety of tournaments taking place in the afternoon, such as corn hole, and horseshoes. There is also a middle school dance and MOC boys coach pitch finals taking place on July 3.
On Independence Day things get even more exciting. The festival officially opens at noon with a parade starting at 4:15 p.m., and the finale of fireworks at 10:05 p.m. A few of the other events of interest include a hypnotist and a radio controlled air show. There will be several eating contests, including wings, watermelon and pizza. There are ongoing activities throughout the festival such as music, games and plenty of concession stands to satisfy everyone’s fair food needs. With a variety of events, there is guaranteed something for everyone to enjoy.
For those looking for a way to celebrate the nation’s birth, the Ontario Fourth of July Festival is a great way to join together with friends and neighbors, support the community and enjoy two days filled with fun, fireworks and freedom.
