MANSFIELD — Two longtime pet groomers turned best friends have opened their own shop in downtown Mansfield, bringing nearly three decades of combined experience to South Main Street.

Platinum Grooming Pawlour LLC opened Tuesday at 446 S. Main St. The business is owned and operated by Mansfield natives Carlene Nabors and Helen Goad.
The pair described their first day as steadily busy, emotional and unreal.
“We’re so excited for the future of Platinum Grooming Pawlour LLC,” Goad said.
The shop offers full-service grooming, including baths, haircuts, nail trims, ear cleaning, deshedding services and more.
The business will operate Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with select Saturdays available by appointment only.
From coworkers to co-owners
The pair met about a decade ago while working as groomers at PetSmart. What started as a shared love for animals grew into a close friendship and eventually a business plan.
“We started off together at PetSmart about 10 years ago,” Goad said. “We’re really close, we’re best friends and we just decided to do it ourselves.”
Goad brings 10 years of grooming experience to the shop, while Nabors has 17 years of experience. Both said they wanted the creative freedom that comes with running their own space.

“I am looking forward to the freedom of being able to groom how I see fit, finding what dogs I can help and how to make them look better.” Goad said. “Grooming is such an art in itself — there are so many ways to do it.”
The pair will also have a third groomer in their shop, Hope Scott, who has been grooming for six years.
“We’re very excited and very family oriented,” Goad said.
The name “Platinum” carries a personal meaning for Nabors. Her father once owned a Mansfield business called Platinum Status.
“After he passed, it has just been an inspiration to be able to do something to keep his legacy alive,” Nabors said.
We want to send a thank you to our family, without them we wouldn’t be here with this cozy little shop.

Nabors’ stepdad, Charles White, owner of Man Behind the Tint located just behind Platinum Grooming Pawlour, also helped by putting in long workdays to get the shop ready to open.
Goad’s family has deep roots in Mansfield. Her father, Tony Goad was a bus driver for Mansfield City Schools for years.
“We want to send a thank-you to our family, without them we wouldn’t be here with this cozy little shop,” Goad said.
