In Loving Memory of Phyllis Jean Cook

Phyllis Jean Cook of Ashland, Ohio passed away at Ohio Health in Mansfield, Ohio on January 24, 2026.

She was born on October 5, 1942, in Hope Hollow, South Webster, Ohio to the late Adolph Franklin Cook and Ella Marie Horner (Cook) Brown. She worked for Fields Publication, where she retired after 25 years. She was a member of Plymouth Church of God, where she found deep value in the community she surrounded herself with. Devoted to her faith, she found spiritual growth and love in the family crafted over years of attending services and gatherings. She was also a volunteer at local food pantries, always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone she could.

Over the years, she opened her heart and home to many children through foster care. Among the many lives she touched through fostering, she was blessed to adopt twin boys who became her greatest joy. She enjoyed the outdoors—especially gardening—sporting events, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and long-time friends who became family to her through the years. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her three precious grandsons.

She is survived by her children, Corey (Kimberly) Cook and Cody Cook; her three grandchildren, Lachlan Eberhart, Layten Eberhart, and Lennox Cook; her sisters, Wilma Marvel, Carolyn Pendelton, and Sue Bradshaw; a half-sister, Ella Mae Brown; and a half-brother, Jerry Dooley. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others she lovingly considered “sons” and “daughters.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers-in-law, Tim Marvel, Sonny Pendelton, and Chalmer Bradshaw; half-brothers William Brown, Randal Brown, Michael Brown, Paul Brown; half-sister Wanda Faye Brown; great-nephew Robert Risner; and her grandparents, Lydia Cook, George Henry Cook, Ella Marie Lee (Horner), and Millard Horner.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
