SANDUSKY — Don’t look now but Mansfield Senior is getting as hot as the weather is cold.

The Tygers overcame a double-digit halftime deficit and erupted for 33 points in the fourth quarter to stun Sandusky 85-80 in Saturday night’s non-conference boys basketball clash.

Sophomore guard Kaylen Brooks exploded for 35 points (29 in the second half), including 5 treys, and grabbed seven rebounds and six steals to pace Senior High. Davion Mack and Andrew Brooks Jr. each contributed 16 points, while D.J. Corbin accounted for 8 points and 11 rebounds.

Coach Marquis Sykes’ squad picked off 16 steals and forced the Blue Streaks into 22 turnovers while committing just 9 miscues. That scrappiness was needed with Sandusky forging a 50-34 rebounding advantage.

Mansfield Senior netted nine triples, compared to just two for the hosts.

Sandusky broke to an 18-16 first-quarter edge, and climbed on top 38-28 at halftime. But the Tygers began chipping away in the third period, slicing the gap to within 58-52 before dominating the fourth quarter with a 33-22 scoring binge.

Dale Johnson and Camrion Jones each posted 24 points for the Blue Streaks, while Ahmaj Woolfork had 12 and Anthony Redding 11. Johnson grabbed 12 rebounds and Redding 10.

It was a strong week for Mansfield Senior, which thumped Lexington (70-42) and West Holmes (74-54) before collecting this tough road win.

Senior High improved to 11-5 overall and will take a 7-3 Ohio Cardinal Conference record into Tuesday night’s home game with Ashland (9-6, 8-2).

Sandusky falls to 9-7 and will bus to Bellevue on Tuesday night.
