Rob Beck was described as “quite the character,” and everyone had a story to tell about him. Rob was happiest outdoors, traveling, or on an adventure. Collecting his treasures took him to many places unknown, and he made many friendships along the way. Robert F. “Rob or Robbie” Beck Jr., 74, of Crestline passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Galion Community Hospital from complications from diabetes.

Born February 8, 1942 in Crestline, he was the son of the late Robert F. “Bob” Beck Sr. and Ida (Voegele) Beck. Rob was a graduate of Crestline High School in 1960 where he was one of few Crestliners chosen in 1959 for the All Ohio Football Team. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Purdue University where he was recruited by Coach Al Parker for the Purdue Boilermaker football team. Rob served with the United States Army in Korea and was a lifelong member of the former First English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crestline. Rob was very strong and deep in his faith.

Rob was a Financial Analyst for Chase-JP Morgan and owned and operated Indiana’s first “Antique Mall” in Shipshewana. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Rob was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed relaxing and hunting on his property in North Dakota, and later moved back to his hometown of Crestline due to health reasons.

He is survived by sister Jane Beck of Crestline; daughter Doris (Mark) Byers of Walhonding and grandson Joseph (Alex) Byers of Mt. Vernon.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7 with Bill Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Crestline.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Rob being Rob, thought he could beat his health issues on his own but as people struggle with diabetes it steals so much from you. Your body protests and it ultimately takes its toll. For those of you with this disease-please take care of yourselves.

Thank you to ALL of his special caregivers at Galion Community Hospital and Mill Creek Nursing Center. Your care and heartfelt concern will be remembered. We appreciated your being there with us on this long journey.

Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes in Galion is honored to serve the family of Rob Beck, and condolences may be made to them at www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
