For the sixth year in a row, MedCentral Health System hospitals are among the nation’s “Most Wired,” according to Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journal of the American Hospital Association.

Both Mansfield and Shelby hospitals were honored in the magazine’s July issue as part of its 2013 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study.

Among other key findings, the survey found that 100 percent of the nation’s Most Wired hospitals check drug interactions and drug allergies when medications are ordered and 90 percent use performance improvement score cards to help reduce inefficiencies.

Mike Mistretta, MedCentral’s vice president of Information Services and chief information officer, said the awards are the result of continually working to innovate and improve patient care and safety.

“We consistently upgrade our systems and stay in front of issues. We continually invest and work to stay ahead,” he said about MedCentral’s information services performance.

Marking its 15th year, the Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study is an industry leader in analyses and benchmarking of health care information technology.

The Most Wired Survey is conducted annually and focuses on how hospitals use information technologies to improve quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues. Hospitals are named to the list based on progress in the adoption, implementation and use of informational technology in infrastructure, business and administration management, clinical quality and safety.
