GALION — Three Galion police officers are credited with saving the lives of an adult and a child this week from a house fire.
Chief Ryan Strange issued a press release Thursday praising the life-saving work of officers Tim Duncan, Kevin Schafer and Austin Chaplin.
According to the chief, the three officers and the Galion Fire Department were dispatched Monday at 9:18 a.m. to the report of a house fire at 121 E. Atwood St.
“The resident reported they were trapped upstairs due to the smoke with their 4-year-old child,” the chief said in the press release.
Strange said the trio of officers were first to arrive and forced entry into the house.
“Inside, they found the entire downstairs blanketed with smoke and could hear the resident calling for help from upstairs,” the chief said.
He said Duncan was able to make his way upstairs and escort the resident and the small child through the smoke and outside to safety.
“I am extremely proud of these officers’ selfless dedication to protecting the citizens of Galion,” the chief said.
“Because of their quick actions, they helped save the lives of the resident and their young child,” Strange said.
