MANSFIELD — Bond was set at $50,000 Monday morning for a 19-year-old daycare worker who stands accused of injuring an 11-month-old child last week.
Sarah Roberts pleaded not guilty to child endangering, a third-degree felony. She was arrested on Friday after authorities said a woman reported her child suffered serious injuries at Step by Step Child Care Center in Madison Township.
If convicted Roberts could face up to three years in prison.
The child was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for a full examination, and remains there in fair condition as of Friday. The parents will no longer allow patient information to be released, the hospital stated on Monday.
Initial reports from the hospital indicate the child sustained a fractured skull and a fractured right arm.
On Friday, Step by Step Child Care Center issued a statement on the incident.
Step-By-Step Child Care issued a statement on Friday saying their management and staff is “deeply concerned” for the welfare of the child and her family, and that they would continue to cooperate with the investigation.
“Step-By-Step Child Care has taken all available measure to ensure the continued safety of all of the children whose care has been entrusted to us and whose safety continues to be our number one priority,” the statement reads.
