Phyllis Felty, 77, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, August 27, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born August 7, 1939, in Grayson, Kentucky, to the late Roy and Lottie (McGlone) Burge. Born on the same day as “The Wizard of Oz” movie premier in the theater, it was one of her favorite movies to watch, especially with her children and grandchildren.

She worked at Therm-O-Disc for 10 years, but her most important job was taking care of her family. Coming from a large family, Phyllis was an expert cook and everyone loved her coleslaw and cocoa and biscuits. Generous to a fault, she would lavish her attention on her children and grandchildren and enjoyed sewing with and for her grandchildren. Keeping in touch with her extended family was important and she enjoyed many long phone conversations with her sisters. Her many friends and family were blessed to have Phyllis in their lives and her genuine concern for others was evident in her every day life.

Phyllis was known as a very organized, detail oriented person and kept her home, both inside and out, looking immaculate. Gardening and tending to her flowers was relaxing for her. She enjoyed the peace and beauty of watching the many birds that visited her home. Phyllis enjoyed playing games and was a super fan of Candy Crush and Farm Heroes. She enjoyed watching soap operas, especially The Young and The Restless, and listening to country music.

Phyllis is survived by three children, Diane (Tim) Sublett, Dana Felty and Gena (Stan) Gearheart; six grandchildren, Michelle (Brad) Porter, Lorelei Caudill, Christian (Kara) Felty, Taylor Felty, Jonah Graf, and Chloe Gearheart; and six great-grandchildren, Haley, Malachi, Rayden, Gabe, Layla and Emmett. She is also survived by four siblings, Clarence Burge, Shirley (Herb) Davis, Carolyn Burge and Larry Burge; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Felty and several brother and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Douglas Beggs officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
