BELLVILLE: Though Daniel Mangette liked to walk, it was much more than exercise to him. Often seen strolling the walks and streets of Bellville, Daniel was spending that time in prayer – it was his time to spend with the Lord. The very focus of his life – his family – consumed his time. Daniel bathed his children and grandchildren in prayer during his daily walks.
Daniel Lawrence Mangette passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at his Bellville home surrounded by his family. He was 83.
He was born on July 14, 1941 in Tiffin, Ohio to Charles and Lorine (Collet) Mangette, and was graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School in 1960. He was retired from United Telephone of Ohio/Sprint/Centurylink after 34 years of service. He was a network planner for the company and he always enjoyed being involved with the planning of the telephone network for the company.
Daniel prioritized his children’s activities, and he then spent a lot of time and energy on his children and grandchildren – attending every sporting or music event.
A classical music aficionado, nicknamed “Mr. Rogers”, Daniel spoke with a love language of kindness and encouragement. He even wore a white cardigan sweater (complete with the holes in the elbows) and would divert any negative conversation towards the positive.
A 15-year volunteer with OhioHealth Hospital, Daniel thrived on serving, escorting, and socializing with all the patients and staff. He appreciated classic cars and collected model cars and airplanes.
He was a member of Resurrection Parish.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay (Bailey) Mangette; their children Richard A. “Rick” (Christine) Mangette of Crestline, Douglas J. (Kay) Mangette of Grove City, Julia A. Chaney of Westerville, and James C. (Michelle) Mangette of Madison, WI; grandchildren Jessica Mangette, Natalee (Drew) Theis, Emily Mangette, Jacob Mangette, Haley Mangette, McKenzie Mangette, Varonica (Gumin Kang) Chaney, Sarah Chaney, Christopher Chaney, Jr., Alexandria Mangette, Brieanna Mangette, Jackson Mangette, Cassandra Mangette, and Rozzie Mangette; great-grandchildren Claire Theis and Daniel Kang; brothers Francis (Nancy) Mangette of Lima, James Mangette in Wisconsin, and Thomas (Mollie) Mangette of Van Wert; a sister Mary Loudenback of Van Wert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
