State Representative Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario) applauded the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 36 through the Ohio House. This legislation designates November 2013 as “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.”
Pancreatic cancer has become one of the most deadly cancers in America with an estimated 45,000 people being diagnosed with the disease in 2013. In Ohio, there will be approximately 1,600 deaths from pancreatic cancer this year alone. As incidence rates of the disease increase, it is estimated that it will become the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S by 2020. The bill works to increase awareness of the disease and encourages the continual research of pancreatic cancer with a focus on treatments and early detection.
“With the unfortunate role pancreatic cancer plays in our society, it is very important that we continue to raise awareness of it,” Rep. Romanchuk said. “Many of us have had friends or family affected by pancreatic cancer, and I’m pleased to see this resolution pass the House.”
H.C.R. 36 passed the House with bipartisan support and will now be considered in the Senate.
