MANSFIELD, Ohio — Richland Moves! is partnering with Richland Public Health this year in promoting healthy living options.

Since the two groups advocate similar things, Richland Moves! Chairman Nelson Shogren said the plan makes for a natural team.

“We work in concert with each other a lot,” he said. “Richland Moves! is about doing things that are human-powered as much as possible and improving personal health through daily activities.”

They started looking ahead at their meeting Tuesday night. As the weather warms, area residents can mark these four events in their calendars.

Shogren also mentioned he and some other Richland Moves! members will meet with Mansfield City Engineer Bob Bianchi and other city officials to discuss possible bike rack locations through the downtown area.

The bike racks will be part of the 6-mile downtown bike loop, which is still under construction. Volunteers from the Ohio Contractor’s Association painted sharrows along Rowland Avenue and Sixth Street.

Painting sharrows and installing signs that read “Bikes May Use Full Lanes” and “Bike Lane” will resume once the weather warms, according to Shogren.

Shogren added that he and the group are working with outside parties on designing bike racks, including John Fernyak, owner of Engweiller Properties in downtown.

“He said he wants to put creative racks on his property,” Shogren said.

The group has consulted with Pioneer Career and Technology Center to design inverted U-shaped bike racks.
