MANSFIELD — They met in the regular season and hope to run into each other again in the postseason.
In the meantime, Mansfield Senior’s Monetta Hilory and Shelby’s Eve Schwemley earned spots on the District 6 first team.
Both Hilory and Schwemley were Division II first-teamers when the teams were unveiled Monday. They were joined by Lexington’s Makaree Chapman.
A senior guard, Hilory averages 10 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 3.0 steals a game for the Tygers. Schwemley, a junior, is good for 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.8 steals a night.
Hilory and the Tygers got the better of Schwemley and the Whippets during the regular season. Hilory scored a team-high 11 points in Senior High’s 46-44 win while Schwemley dropped a game-high 18 points.
The teams could meet again in the district semifinals. Senior High earned the top seed in the rugged Old Fort district while Shelby was the No. 3 seed.
The area’s third first-team representative, Lexington’s Chapman, averages 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists a game. Lex is the No. 9 seed in the Old Fort district.
Mansfield Senior’s Kiersten Bradley was a second-team pick, along with Lexington’s Ava Brown. Bradley recently scored her 1,000th career point for the Tygers. Brown missed the early portion of the season with an injury but came back to average 10.3 points and 11.2 rebounds a game.
Mansfield Senior’s Annaleise Norris, Kyeona Myers and Juleah Windham, Shelby’s Serena Ramsey and Ontario’s Paradise Jeru were honorable-mention selections.
Bellevue’s Hailey Rees was selected the Player of the Year in Division II. Bellebvue’s Kory Santoro was the Coach of the Year.
Division I
Madison’s Natalee Back and Ashland’s Camryn Cox and Kennedy Lacey were first-team picks in Division I.
A senior, Back averages 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds a game for the Rams. Cox averages 10.9 points and 8.2 rebounds a game, while Lacey averages 15.8 points and 7.5 rebounds a game.
Madison’s Chloe Eberling and Ashland’s Madison Hoffman were second-team picks. Eberling averages 10.2 points and 8.0 rebounds a game, while Hoffman averages 8.5 points a night.
Madison’s Morgan Cook (7.8 ppg) was the area’s lone honorable-mention selection.
Fremont Ross’ Destiny Robinson was Player of the Year. Fremont’s Juan Vela was the Coach of the Year.
Division III
Clear Fork sharpshooter Annika Labaki headlined the area’s first-team picks in Division III.
A senior and the program’s record-holder in career 3-pointers, Labaki averages 10.5 points a game. She was joined on the first team by Colonel Crawford’s Mira Holt (11.4 ppg), Bucyrus’ Brook Dennison (13.2 ppg) and Wynford’s Caroline Sheldon (12.1 ppg).
Clear Fork’s Mel Blubaugh and Wynford’s Brooke Frombaugh were second-team selections. Blubaugh averages 9.5 points a game, while Frombaugh averages 9.9 points and 10.9 rebounds a game.
Honorable-mention picks included Clear Fork’s Kylie Belcher, Colonel Crawford’s Allison Weithman, Bucyrus’ Addison Kemery, Wynford’s Zoe Whitmeyer and Galion’s Cameron Eckert.
The Division III Player of the Year was Grace Walton of Upper Sandusky. Margaretta’s Ray Neill was the Coach of the Year.
Division IV
Plymouth senior Jaylin Branham and Mansfield Christian senior Kyleah Jones earned spots on the Division IV first team.
Branham averages 13.2 points a game while Jones helped the Flames to a runner-up finish in the Mid-Buckeye Conference.
Buckeye Central’s Nevaeh Metzger was a second-team pick, while Plymouth’s Kendyll Tolbert, Mansfield Christian’s Raegan Standridge and Crestline’s Jocelyn Noblit and Kennedi Sipes were honorable-mention selections.
