ONTARIO — Jareth Vance is due to be arraigned in Mansfield Municipal Court for attempted aggravated murder on Feb. 15.
The Perrysville man was arrested Sunday night after a four-hour standoff at 1019 Landings Court in Ontario.
According to a statement from the Ontario Police Department, Vance held a female hostage at gunpoint at the residence. Officers responded at 8:47 p.m. to try to rescue the hostage, when Vance fired at them and shot Officer Dylan Bailey.


He also shot the female hostage, who was taken to the hospital. Bailey was hospitalized and in stable condition as of Monday morning and the female victim’s condition is unknown.
Richland County Prosecutor Jodie Schumacher said, as of Monday afternoon, she didn’t know of any fatalities in the case.
A 16-year-old hostage escaped unharmed Sunday. Hostage negotiators were called to the scene with Ontario police, the Richland County ASORT team, Mansfield police, Shelby police, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Vance was also arrested in Crawford County last month on domestic violence charges. Crawford County Municipal Court issued a no-contact order with the victim on Jan. 29.
Charges are pending in that case.
Ontario police responded to an alleged violation of a no-contact order on Sunday night.
The 32-year-old’s bail was set at $1 million cash on Monday morning during his initial appearance in Mansfield Municipal Court. His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 15 at 1:15 p.m. in front of Judge David Badnell.
Attorney Terry Hitchman was assigned to represent Vance.
Attempted aggravated murder is a first-degree felony. According to Ohio Revised Code, those convicted of first-degree felonies could be sentenced to a minimum term of between three and 11 years.
