GALION — A 54-year-old Galion man suffered life-threatening injuries on Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a train, according to press release issued by police chief Brian Saterfield.

Polise say that at approximately 1:10 p.m., Galion Police and Galion Fire and EMS responded to the area of the South Market Street railroad crossing for a report of a pedestrian struck by a northbound CSX train. Upon arrival, a man was located near the closed crossing at South Union Street.

The victim was transported to Galion Avita Hospital and later flown to an unknown hospital by MedFlight with life threatening injuries, police said.

According to authorities, video obtained from CSX showed the man was sitting very close to the railroad track on the south side of the track. The man did not move after warning horns were sounded and was struck by the train.
