ASHLAND — The Ashland City School District’s Board of Education has set a special meeting in anticipation of approving a tentative agreement with the Ashland City Teachers Association, according to a notice issued Tuesday afternoon.
The meeting is set for 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at the Ashland City School District Administrative Offices, 1407 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
If the contract between the Ashland BOE and ACTA is approved Friday morning, the new contract dollars would be in teachers’ first 2020 paycheck and the longer workday that provides an annual stipend to teachers would be implemented again.
The BOE had presented a last best offer at its Nov. 18 school board meeting, but the ACTA had responded the following week, saying the proposal did not meet the qualifications of a last best offer and would not be entertained.
However, on Wednesday, Dec. 4, the BOE invited ACTA leadership to join them in an executive session at that special meeting. The conversation led to “additional clarifications” to the board’s last best offer from the Nov. 18th meeting.
The board voted unanimously to recognize the modified document as the “last best and final offer.”
At that time, council president Dr. James Wolfe said if an agreement isn’t reached by Dec. 20, the board has decided to wait fact finding results, which were anticipated for February.
