MANSFIELD — North central Ohio could be in the path of a strong storm on Wednesday night, according to Sarah Potes, director of the Richland County Emergency Management Agency.
The National Weather Service sent out an alert on Wednesday morning that a line of showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and move east through the area into this evening.
A few strong to severe storms are possible, especially along and east of I-71 between 5 and 10 p.m.
The greatest confidence for strong to severe storms is along and east of the I-71 corridor
this afternoon and evening, although Potes said most of Richland County is in the slight risk area.
Forecasters say damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph are the primary concern, though a brief tornado or two also cannot be ruled out.
Heavy rain is likely within thunderstorms, with isolated nuisance flooding possible.
There is medium confidence for a few strong to severe storms (particularly in the slight risk area).
Periodic cloud cover throughout today may limit the overall severe threat, especially
west of the I-71 corridor.
