MANSFIELD — Thousands of customers in Mansfield lost power Thursday afternoon after an “equipment issue” with a transmission line that feeds the area, according to an Ohio Edison spokeswoman.

Ohio Edison reported a power outage just before 1 p.m. The outage affected nearly 8,200 customers.

Lauren Siburkis, a spokeswoman for Ohio Edison, said crews expected to reverse the outage by 3:30 p.m. ‘

Some places reported the power was back on around 1:15 p.m., including Idea Works on West Fourth Street, home for Richland Source.

She said crews were not exactly sure what caused the equipment issue but that engineers “were investigating the exact cause and are on site addressing the issue.”

Siburkis said some of the affected customers were located in Madison Township. The power company’s outage map showed the outage reaching as far south as Perrysville and Loudonville in Ashland County.
