Detectives with the METRICH Enforcement Unit conducted a knock and talk at 492 Spayer Ln. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 after receiving several complaints of drug trafficking. While knocking on the door, several of the occupants were observed fleeing to the area of the kitchen prior to opening the door.
While speaking with the occupants, detectives smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the residence. Detectives were given consent by the owner, Martin Rawls Jr. to search his residence. Shortly after beginning the search, a large quantity of crack cocaine was observed in the kitchen.
The residence was then secured so a search warrant could be obtained. Detectives drafted a search warrant which was signed by the Honorable Judge Ardis. The METRICH Enforcement Unit then executed the search warrant at approximately 10:15 p.m.
During the search, detectives located and seized a large quantity of crack cocaine, a quantity of powder cocaine, a quantity of black tar heroin, a quantity of marijuana and a significant amount of U.S. currency. In addition to the illegal narcotics, detectives also seized a double barrel sawed off shotgun and a handgun.
Martin Rawls Jr. was arrested and incarcerated at the Richland County jail and charged with Drug Trafficking. Further charges will be submitted to the Richland County Prosecutors Office for review once the investigation is closed.
