James W. “Jim” Carpenter passed away Friday morning, July 17, 2015 in his daughter’s Mansfield home surrounded by family following a short illness. He was 69.
He was born August 30, 1945 in Olive Hill, Kentucky to parents James Elliot & Effie (Stevens) Carpenter as one of eight children. The family moved to the Mansfield area in the 60’s and has been here ever since. Jim worked for Artesian/Crane Plumbing in Mansfield for over 33 years.
In his time off, Jim enjoyed watching TV especially news and current events, going for drives in his blue Mazda RX-8, and listening to bluegrass or classic rock music. He knew the best things in life are free and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like going fishing with his son.
Jim was well-respected among his friends and everyone knew they could go to him for help. He was fiercely independent and took pride in his clean cut look. His family could always count on him to make them laugh—even though most of his jokes were unintentional.
He will be dearly missed by his three children and their spouses: Ted & Janet Carpenter, Charla & Tim Bowman, and Liz & Robert Burks all of Mansfield; five grandchildren: Samantha Carpenter, Aron Hamm, Eric Hamm, Jessica Greer, and Michael Greer all of Mansfield; two great-grandchildren Ella Sweval and Braxton Hamm; two brothers and sisters-in-law Robert & Brenda Carpenter of Columbus and Gary & Sandy Carpenter of Caledonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by five siblings: Charles, Louise, Sue, Donald, and an infant sister Charlotte.
The family is holding a Celebration of Life service honoring Jim’s life 6 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015 in the Ontario Event Center, 3985 Park Ave West in Ontario.
