Gerald Lewis Schroeder

Gerald Lewis Schroeder passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2015 in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home of Ashland. He was 78.

Gerald was born on October 25, 1936 to parents Virgil L. and Mildred L. (Gerhart) Schroeder in Perrysville, Ohio. He began working at AK Steel when he was 18 and retired after 33 years in the lab as a Metallurgist.

Gerald had a true passion for playing the guitar and singing. Even after not being able to play the guitar anymore, he still continued to sing, and had a wonderful voice. Gerald was famous for breaking out in song when no one was expecting it. He also enjoyed golfing and was a talented handyman and carpenter. Gerald had a genuine love for dogs, he had several stray dogs that he fed and cared for in his neighborhood.

He is survived by his sons Steven (Cheryl) Schroeder of Mansfield, and Gary (Robin) Schroeder of Georgia; granddaughter Amanda Schroeder; siblings Glenn Schroeder of Florida, and Diane (Gerald) Gehrisch of Mansfield, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Gerald is preceded by his brother Wayne Schroeder.

A Celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home Finefrock Chapel with Rev. Julie Thoms and Pastor Harry Strachan officiating. A Private burial will be held at a later date.

Contributions in his memory to Richland County Humane Society may be made at the funeral home.
