MANSFIELD (UPDATED Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.) — Crestline, St. Peter’s Schools and the elementary students in Mansfield City Schools will not attend school Wednesday due to unseasonably hot temperatures in September. 

Mansfield City Schools announced on Tuesday afternoon Prospect, Sherman, Springmill STEM, Woodland, and the Spanish Immersion School will be closed on Wednesday because of the forecast for extreme heat. None of the buildings have air-conditioning. 

Malabar Intermediate, Mansfield Middle School and Mansfield Senior High School will be in session as usual.

Lexington Local Schools is releasing two hours early Wednesday. Both the junior high and senior high buildings will release at 12:30 p.m. The elementary students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. There will be no afternoon kindergarten or preschool. 

According to the National Weather Service, heat index values in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees are possible Wednesday, mainly during the afternoon hours.

This is the second day in a row and third time in a week that Mansfield City Schools has closed its elementaries due to heat. The elementary schools also closed on Aug. 28 due to similar weather.
