MANSFIELD – Kingwood Center Gardens is playing host to a plethora of creepy critters for the summer.
The national exhibit “Big Bugs” is on display at Kingwood starting May 19 through August 19. The exhibit shows off 10 bug sculptures, including a Lady Bug, a Spider and Web, an Assassin Bug, three Ants, a Damselfly, a Dragonfly, a Praying Mantis, and a Daddy Long-Legs.
The bugs were created by artist David Rogers and have been touring the country since 1994. Their purpose is to educate the public about the importance of the preservation and conservation of the planet.
The “Big Bugs” exhibit has been featured across 40 states before coming to Kingwood. Keeping with the conservation message, the bugs are also made out of all-natural materials.
Children can experience a special insect experience on August 4 with “Bug Day” at Kingwood. The day includes Bug Olympics, a bug tasting at the “Pestaurant,” a showing of the movie “A Bug’s Life” and seeing life through a bug’s point of view with ReVision, who sponsors the bug exhibit.
The Bug Zoo from Ohio State University will also be exhibiting and educating with live bugs in the Carriage House. The activities include free treats.
