MANSFIELD — For the second year in a row Richland County Children Services accepted the donation of more than 60 tote bags from Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland troops at the Friendly House.
The bags contained fleece blankets, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs, activity books, crayons and socks. The agency will distribute the bags to grade-school age boys and girls from families working with Richland County Children Services. The donations were part of a service project and came during a Girl Scout community service meeting that included Girl Scouts from around the county.
Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland troops prepared the bags at the Friendly House in Mansfield. Approximately 35 girls from various troops helped load the bags with goodies.
“It was a pleasure to make bags for the kids again this year,” said Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Mansfield Service Center Volunteer Services Manager Jennifer L. Gatchall. “Troops from across Richland County (three Girl Scout service units) were asked to make blankets, bags, and toiletry boxes.
“They were also asked to supply brushes, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and deodorant. All of the items were brought to the Friendly House where the girls tied the remaining blankets and made additional toiletry boxes out of recycled Girl Scout cookie boxes.”
