Look closely at the foreground of these images from then & now, and you’ll see how a skinny little city tree can grow into a significant element of the streetscape in 100 years.
The home nearest the photographer was built by J.E. Brown for his family when the top of Sturges hill was the height of high society homes and he was president of the Aultman Taylor Co. In later decades, it was home to Dr. Searle’s family in the 20s and 30s; and then sometime in the 1950s it became the city’s first accredited nursing home. The grand old place is sort of between jobs at the moment.
