MANSFIELD — Richland Academy is offering two college music scholarships to high school seniors planning to participate in music classes in college this fall.
The first award is the J. Frederick “Fritz” Wolf Scholarship; a $350 vocal scholarship $350. This award will be given to one vocal student who is currently a high school senior and planning to participate in music in college. Applicants are required to sing one song from the Solo & Ensemble Senior High Vocal Solo Class A list.
The second award is the Dr. Thomas H. Croghan Scholarship for a jazz student (vocal or instrumental) for $300. This award will be given to one jazz student who is currently a high school senior planning to participate in music in college this fall. Applicants are required to perform one jazz standard from memory (solo or with accompaniment) and to improvise 4 choruses of F, G, or C blues. Richland Academy will provide recorded rhythm tracks for the improvisation portion.
The auditions for these awards will be on Saturday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. The top two finalists will be expected to perform at the Student Music Recital at Richland Academy on Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. The awards will be announced and given during the recital.
