Rexford “Rex” R. Beer, 81, of Ontario, passed away shortly after noon on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. He was born August 23, 1933, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Robert E. and Kathryn M. (Leedy) Beer. Rex attended the Apostolic Christian Church his entire life.
He graduated from Ontario High School in 1951 and began full-time farming on his grandfather’s property. Rex married Marilyn J. Stahl in November 1954 and then joined the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War for two years as a dental assistant. After his discharge, he went to work at General Motors the very night he arrived home. Rex retired in 1991, after 34 years of service, in the welder maintenance department. He thoroughly enjoyed retirement and was able to spend his days doing the things he loved, including wood carving, mowing, working on the family farm, and traveling a bit.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Marilyn J. Beer; two sons, Ronald (Donna) Beer of Fairborn and Marvin (Robin) Beer of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Staci (Kurt) Fiechter, Julie (Zach) Reinhard, Mitchel Beer and Tyler Beer; three great-grandchildren, Colten Fiechter, Kali Fiechter and Bree Reinhard; two brothers, Alvin (Janet) Beer and Dennis (Sandy) Beer; a sister, Kathy Stacy; a sister-in-law, Pat Beer; a brother-in-law, Dale Gabor; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Gabor; and two brothers, Kenneth and Delbert Beer.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Apostolic Christian Church, 84 N. Illinois Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Church.
