ONTARIO, Ohio — A female was transported to OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after being involved in a car accident at the intersection of state Route 309 and Stumbo Road Tuesday evening.

Patrolman Jeremy Mohn with the Ontario Police Department explained, “At about 4:55 p.m., as the driver of a white box truck was heading eastbound on [State Route] 309, he tried to swerve to get out of the way of another individual who had cut him off in the lane. He ran through a red light as she, the driver of the red Hyundai, was traveling southbound on Stumbo [Road] and came through a valid green light.”

The driver of the box truck was unable to stop and struck the front of the Hyundai, he said.

The Hyundai driver was transported to the hospital. “From talking to her, she seemed to be okay. She was coherent and everything looked good, but we won’t know until after she gets out of the hospital,” Mohn said.

The other driver was unharmed, “just a little shaken up because of the accident, but that’s about it,” Mohn described.

He said the driver of the box truck will be cited for a red light violation.

The Springfield Township Fire Department assisted the Ontario Police Department at the scene by directing traffic and transporting the individual to the hospital. Harriger Towing removed the damaged Hyundai from the scene.
