Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center recently recognized 15 graduating seniors from Crawford, Morrow and Richland county school districts for their academic success. 

Students receiving Franklin B. Walter awards from Crawford County included K. Karsen Kaple, Buckeye Central Local Schools; McKinley Hargis, Bucyrus City Schools; and Addison Zeisler, Galion City Schools.

Seniors from Morrow County included Zachary Lee, Cardington-Lincoln Local Schools; Samantha Thompson from Highland Local Schools; and Lauren Bood, Northmor Local Schools.

Richland County seniors honored by Mid-Ohio ESC included Abby Motter, Crestview Local Schools, Virginia Speck, Lexington Local Schools; Sara Hecker, Lucas Local Schools; Logan Braum, Madison Local Schools; Marilynn Workman, Mansfield City Schools; Jacob Catron, Ontario Local Schools; Ingrid Schmidt, Pioneer Career and Technology Center; Nathan Weldlin, Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools; and Corey Cox, Shelby City Schools.

In addition, three students were awarded $500 scholarships from the Mid-Ohio ESC Board of Governors.  Scholarship winners included Addison Zeisler, Galion City Schools in Crawford County; Samantha Thompson, Highland Local Schools in Morrow County; and Abby Motter, Crestview Local Schools in Richland County.

Senior scholars demonstrating outstanding academic achievement as indicated by grades, test scores and school activities were selected by the high schools.  Each student submitted an essay about a person who has had a positive impact on his or her life.  These included parents, siblings, teachers and family friends.

The top students attended a dinner on March 11 at Mid-Ohio ESC along with family members, school administrators and their positive impact person.   Each student read his or her essay and was awarded a gift bag with items donated by area businesses.

Students, family members and school administrators were welcomed by Mid-Ohio ESC Superintendent Linda T. Keller and Board of Governors President Dennis Leader.

To honor former State Superintendent Dr. Franklin B. Walter, the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) established the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards to promote student achievement and recognize academic accomplishment.  One student from each of Ohio’s 88 counties will be honored at a ceremony in April.

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center, located at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center at 890 W. Fourth St. in Mansfield, provides high quality, cost-effective, specialized academic/ therapy support services and professional development for school districts in the Central Ohio Region. These include offering alternative educational options, preschool education and printing services, as well as conference center facilities.
