MANSFIELD — The Richland County Common Pleas Court is warning the public of a nationwide telephone scam involving individuals claiming to be deputy calling regarding jury service.
Richland County Common Pleas Court Judges Brent N. Robinson and Phillip S. Naumoff issued the joint press release on Monday morning.
Victims have received calls telling them that they failed to appear for jury service and can avoid arrest by paying a fine or by reporting to the jail.
A Court will never ask for payment, a credit card or your social security number for failure to appear for jury duty. Do not divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers, even if they sound legitimate.
If you believe you were a victim of the jury duty scam, you are encouraged to report the incident to local law enforcement.
