George William Oackes, 84, of Howard, passed away at his home surrounded by his family, dear friend Bet, and his loving animals CeCe and Sweetie on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
George was born on October 7, 1938 in Spencerville, Ohio. He was the son of Charles and Fanny (Harter) Oackes. George was a veteran in the United States Air Force. He had a career at Charles Ritter Co. in Mansfield and retired from the family business, Bindel’s Appliance in Findlay, Ohio. A devoted grandfather, George loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always willing and ready to offer assistance to others, and did so with a kind, caring heart without judgement. An outdoorsman, George enjoyed golfing, hunting and gardening. He was a past member of the Richland County Fish and Game Club.
George was survived by his children, Brian Oackes and Cheryl (Aaron) Brumit; his grandchildren, Lauren and Ashley Brumit and Braeden and Caleb Oackes; his sister, June Bindel; and his nephew, Jack (Pat) Bindel. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Irv Bindel.
There will be no public services observed however if you wish to make a memorial contribution in honor of Southern Care Hospice. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the Oackes family.
