Freda Clark

Freda L. Clark, 93, of Mansfield, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Crestwood Care Center. Born August 30, 1921 in Mansfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of Carl and Helen Walter.

She was a 70 year member of the Salvation Army where she also volunteered for over 40 years. She retired in 1982 from Peoples Hospital where she worked as a nurse assistant. Freda enjoyed painting and crocheting and was active until the age of 88 on a bowling league. She also enjoyed her Monday night group for dinner and cards. Traveling, especially to visit family in Florida and New Mexico, was a favorite pastime. Freda also performed as a clown named Moonbeam.

A loving and compassionate person, she always remembered each family member’s birthday with a card.  Freda will always be thought of as a woman with a heart for hospitality and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith DeYarmon; a son, Greg Clark (Amanda Carroll); six grandchildren, Jody Johnson, Kay Davis, Karri DeYarmon, George “Butch” DeYarman, Joe (Dawn) Clark and Melody (David) Jefferson; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Martha “Marty” Bassin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, Joseph Clark whom she married in 1939; a son, Roy Clark; five brothers; one sister; and her faithful companions, her dogs, Bear and Peanut.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or ASPCA.
