Richard A. “Dick” Miller, 88 of Galion passed away Thursday morning, February 19, 2015 at Galion Community Hospital. He had been in declining health. 

He was born May 7, 1926 in Galion and was the son of Roy and Mary (Shumaker) Miller.

On October 20, 1956 he married Dorothy (Stoyanovich) Miller and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2014. 

Richard was a 1944 graduate of Galion High School and proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. During his time in the military, he attended Engineering Specialty School for drafting in Ft. Belvoir, VA. and would later serve in Yokohama, Japan in the 8th Army headquarters of General McArthur’s staff. 

He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church, American Legion Scarbrough Post #243, Galion and various conservative organizations. Richard was former president of the Warren G. Harding Memorial Library Association in Blooming Grove. He worked at the former Galion Ironworks-Galion Dresser and Komatsu as a machinist and retired after 40 years. Richard’s hobbies included gardening, designing and working in his home machine shop. 

Richard is survived by son David (Lilly) Miller of Potomac Falls, Va.; grandchildren Chris, Lexi and Danielle; sister-in-law Jane Miller of Galion and nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Albert, Dale, Kenneth and Robert Miller and a sister, Elizabeth Bower. 

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Rodney Noblit officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. 

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
