Shirley R. (Keefer) Whitt, 78, of Ontario, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at her home. Born March 8, 1936 in Shelby, she was the daughter of Orva and Caroline (Terman) Keefer. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and had worked for Tappan and then Essex Thermostat. She retired from Ontario Schools where she was a bus driver for over 30 years. Shirley was a faithful attendee of Ontario Free Methodist Church where she could often be found helping other church members get around. A quiet and humble person, she never wanted any recognition for the help and care she gave to others, especially her family. She loved this area and enjoyed visiting the Mohican area, but Shirley also enjoyed traveling to favorite spots of hers in Myrtle Beach, SC and Ft. Walton Beach, FL. She enjoyed reading and crafting, especially hand painting furniture.
She is survived by her son and #1 priority, Jeffrey (Alicia) Whitt of Victorville, CA; grandson, Tyler; brother, Merlin “Buzz” Keefer; her puppy Molly; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of Shirley’s life conducted by Rev. Fred Coisman will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario. Friends may call prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
