CRESTLINE, Ohio – Crestline is looking at a deficit in the general fund by the end of 2014. The finance committee met Monday, Dec. 8, to discuss what should be done about the estimated $50,000 to $60,000 hole. Legislation will come before council regarding the deficit at the next meeting, Dec. 22.

The committee discussed possible cuts in the police department. The decision is not one the committee wants to go forward with, but everything has to be considered. “We’re in a financial crunch,” said council member Clayton Herold.

“It’s not a pretty situation,” said newest council member Gene Toy. “We’re not picking on anybody.”

The committee talked about two possible solutions for the immediate problem of finishing the year in the black: An advance from another fund or a transfer from another fund.

The final decision will be made at the next council meeting. Temporary appropriations will be taken to the county auditor, and final appropriations for 2015 are due at the beginning of April.

In other, lighter, business, council members will be driving around Crestline looking for the best-decorated house. The contest is named “The Holiday House” and owners will receive a certificate and a prize.
