U.S. Sen. Rob Portman spoke at the Ashbrook Center luncheon on Friday in Ashland.

ASHLAND – U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) attended Friday’s Ashbrook Center luncheon entitled, “The Challenges Facing Our Nation,” and delivered remarks to high school students, Ashbrook Scholars, Ashbrook Center supporters and Ashland University students, alumni, supporters, and community members.

He spoke about his work in public service and his efforts to deliver results in the United States Senate, particularly his focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine as co-chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus.

“It was great to visit with so many future leaders today at the Ashbrook Center,” Portman said. “I enjoyed the opportunity to talk about the most pressing issues facing our nation, especially the work we’re doing in Congress to support the Ukrainian people.

“It was also a pleasure to speak to so many supporters of Ashland University and the Ashbrook Center. I appreciate the invitation from Executive Director Jeff Sikkenga and the board at Ashbrook.”

The mission of the Ashbrook Center is to strengthen constitutional self-government by educating our fellow Americans — students, teachers, and citizens — in the history and Founding principles of our country and the habits of reflection and choice necessary to perpetuate our republic.

After his remarks, Senator Portman participated in a conversation with 120 Ashbrook Scholars.
