PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth FFA CDE teams dedicate much of their free time to practicing for events with many teams advancing to state competition due to their preparation and experience.
Here are some recent results from those events.
Food Science and Technology CDE places 13th in state
The Food Science and Technology CDE is designed to promote learning activities in food science and technology related to the food industry and to assist students in developing practical knowledge of principles used in a team decision-making process.
This event requires students to have an in-depth understanding of food product development, food presentation and food safety issues. Participants also use their sensory skills to solve problems and make sound decisions. Students in this event participate in both team and individual activities.
Plymouth FFA placed first in the district contest which allowed students to advance to the state competition. In preparation for the state competition, students met before and after school and put in many hours practicing.
Also to prepare, students sought assistance from Emily Kanney, a food scientist employed with Campbell’s Soup and an alumni of Plymouth High School and the FFA program. Miss Kanney met with the team virtually and discussed the process of creating crackers as well as the food safety concerns associated with the process.
Food Science CDE Team members included: Senior Megan Lindenberger, and Freshman Kansas Huston, Katelyn Swingle and Kristen Swingle. The team placed 13th in the state competition with Megan Lindenberger leading the team as the 13th high individual overall.
Novice Parliamentary Procedure Career and Leadership Development Event places 10th in the state
Students participating in the Parliamentary Procedure Career and Leadership Development Event (LDE) are evaluated on their ability to conduct an orderly and efficient meeting using parliamentary procedure. Participants are judged on their knowledge of parliamentary law and their ability to present logical, realistic and convincing debate and motions.
Students spend hours practicing proper motions, debate, good posture as well as practicing speaking freely in a persuasive manner while also speaking concisely and articulately.
During the State competition the Plymouth FFA team earned second place in district competition and placed 10th in state following the preliminary score comparisons.
This group expressed amazing team work and dedication as they dealt with COVID-19 quarantine and illnesses among members. We are so proud of how they pulled through and overcame obstacles in order to qualify and place so well in state competition.
