Take an In-depth look at Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport

Travelers in the north central Ohio region often flock to the region’s major cities, Columbus and Cleveland, for commercial flights departing from John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

But, the region is also home to a handful of smaller regional and county airports that offer flight services to companies and private citizens alike. Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport, which is owned by the city of Mansfield, is centrally located: just over an hour from the international airports in the region’s major cities. It averages 56 daily arrivals and departures per day.

While Mansfield Lahm does not offer commuter or commercial flights, it’s fixed-base operator, Niss Aviation, offers charter services. In case you’re wondering, charter services refer to unscheduled flights that aren’t part of regular airline travel. Mansfield Lahm is used for business-related and recreational charter flights.

The airport’s chief pilot, Zack Kelly said he often flies business executives in and out for location scouting and meetings. Other times, someone may simply be flying a plane out of Mansfield Lahm in order to take their family out to a quick lunch in Port Clinton or Put-in-Bay and then return the same day. But, the airport is also a business tool.

Some of the top employers in the area use Mansfield Lahm, both to transport goods and for leadership travel. The airport is also home to Mansfield Aviation Club, founded in 1949, which provides scholarships and celebrations. Beyond business and personal travel, Mansfield Lahm has an Air National Guard Base.
The airport has gone through a number of major changes in recent years, including the renovation of the terminal building. Mansfield Lahm also recently received a new hangar–one of 25 in total.

Two of the most recent additions to the airport are a self-serve fuel tank, which opened mid-January, and a flight school. The flight school, AeroTrek Flight Academy, opened a campus location at Mansfield Lahmlast summer.

It has other campuses in Wadsworth, Akron-Canton and Wayne County airports. Similar to how AeroTrek has a campus at the airport, there are other businesses based at the airport that serve aircraft, including Modern Avionics and Maintenance, Inc.

Ashland’s Ernest Cline wrote Ready Player One

Next, some local history. Did you know that Ashland’s own Ernest Cline is a science fiction novelist, slam poet, and screenwriter? He wrote the novels Ready Player One, Armada, and Ready Player Two.

Ready Player One was a New York Times bestseller and Cline co-wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg. The movie version went on to gross nearly $600 million at the box office and won a Saturn award for Best Science Fiction Film.

Theisen’s “While You’re Waiting” is a faith-based book
Next, from Ashland Source – Ashland resident Regina Theisen’s newly released book, “While You’re Waiting,” is a discussion of ways in which believers can find power in the waiting times.

The former Ontario and Clear Fork teacher authored “While You’re Waiting” from Christian Faith Publishing. The goal of her work is an encouraging opportunity for spiritual reflection and growth through a realignment of one’s thinking. Theisen said waiting does not mean sitting and doing nothing.

Waiting is a very thoughtful, energized time to prepare for the next step. Theisen is a licensed clinical counselor and school counselor. She’s also a former high school teacher, gym owner, personal trainer, and a pastor’s wife.

She says that while you read the book you’ll have opportunities to dive into scripture, reflect on your past, and prayerfully consider your future.

Jack Junior Miller

Finally, we’d like to take a moment to remember Jack Junior Miller of Ontario. For many years, Jack owned his own plastering company which kept him busy. Despite this, he still found time to tend to a farm, oversee his garden and take the family on countless hunts for mushrooms in the nearby wooded areas. Jack was always known for his wit and ability to pull a prank or two when needed.

Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edna, his sisters, his dear son, Rick, his grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Thank you for taking a moment with us today to remember and celebrate Jack’s life.
